Another Long Day–Sullivan, Missouri

Friday, March 20, 2015 – First day of Spring

Another long and uneventful day.  Always glad to say that when I drive for hours on end.  Today, I drove 500 miles from Weatherford, Oklahoma to Sullivan, Missouri.  I am now at the Walmart for the night.

I left very early at 6:30 am this morning so I could get through Oklahoma City as soon as possible.  Last year, I remember there was a lot  of road construction going on all the way through the west side of the city on I-40.  Fortunately, it is all done and I had no problems maneuvering through the many turns in that city.

Had breakfast at a truck stop on the east side of Oklahoma City on I-40 and then continued on until stopping for lunch at a truck stop outside Springfield, Missouri.

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Missouri.  I graduated from high school and college in Missouri.  I also spent six weeks of boot camp in the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood in southern Missouri.  Not that it was the best time of my life, but it was memorable.  The Ozark hills of southern Missouri always look nice

The weather is very nice.   Cool but comfortable.  We had a gorgeous orange sunset with the light clouds over head.

See you later.

  2. Sullivan Missouri rings a bell for me but just can't quite place or remember it. We have overnighted in the Weatherford Walmart as well. Sounds like you will be home soon. Always a pretty nice feeling driving those final few miles.

    1. Yes, today is the last 250 miles. Glad to get home. Enjoyed the journey to the southwest, but glad to have a place called home.

  3. That is an amazing sky! That's a lot of driving in a few days - you'll be glad to get out of that seat :-) Will be interesting to see how Yuma likes that side of the country. Safe travels home.

    1. Thank you Jodee. I am glad to be home with no more driving. Time for a little rest from my vacation. Yuma had some problems last night adjusting to a little doggie and three cats. But, he is so sweet I am sure they all will love him as I do very soon.
