Around Camp

Wednesday, March 4, 2015

Not an exciting day today.  We decide to stay close to our camp here at Mittry Lake and shoot photos of the area.

Took Yuma for a walk this morning just as the sun was rising.

It was around 11 am and we took another walk.  This time we walked along the road that goes around the south and east side of the lake.

There is a canal running along the road where I am camped.  Yuma is very curious about the canal and keeps wanting to go down the embankment which is fairly steep and goes directly into the canal.  No place to stand at the bottom and as you can see, the water is running quickly in the canal due to all the rain they had here the other day.imageimageimage

Because we are so close to the north end of the lake, I decided we would drive north on the dirt road to hwy S24 near the Imperial Dam.

As you can see, spring has come to Mittry Lake.  Everything is growing and there are leaves on the trees.  The wind has picked up and is coming out of the north.

Below are photos of the canal that runs along S24.

Yuma wants to jump in I think.  Mittry Lake is on the other side of those green reeds.  We are camped not far from those mountains in the background.

One more walk as the sun sets around our camp.

Looks to be a full moon tonight.

See you later.

  1. The picture of the full moon over the mountains and desert was beautiful! The one of the full moon by itself was great!. I loved the pictures of the desert coming alive and the canals. The canals were a beautiful blue! That's amazing.

    1. Thank you Dolly. The blue color actually came from the sky reflecting on it. The water is a greenish color. It was a beautiful full moon last night. Didn't need a flashlight on Yuma's walk it was so bright.

    1. Thank you, Karen. I have been trying to improve, but still hard for me to set up shots. I just click a lot of them and hope one comes out. The digital age is great.

  3. We always have the water lady come to our classes and explain the NO SWIMMING rules for canals. They have turbines underneath and even adults drown in those canals. I'm surprised it isn't fenced. They are VERY dangerous.

    1. You are right, Cheryl Ann. The water runs fast through here and does look dangerous. Everywhere you go has canals to support the large flat rich soil around here and there are no fences. Lettuce seems to be the plant of choice. There are pickers and trucks all along S24 from here to Yuma, about 15 miles.

Last year, I got lost in the maze of dirt roads that go around the fields and thought I would never find my way out.

  4. Judging from your pictures it's a beautiful place for walking. I'm sure it's nice to see the spring greening things up. Your moon shot over the mountains is excellent. Sure would make a beautiful desktop. It's nice that the moon gives us days on either side that look full so we have even more chances to appreciate it. I read that this full moon is the smallest one of the year since it is the farthest away and that it is totally full tonight so you should be able to get some more great pictures.
