Driving around the mountain

Woke every few hours last night, but Yuma slept like a log.  He wore himself out yesterday.

We had a leisurely breakfast outside in the beautiful morning breeze.  It's going to be another gorgeous day.

Yuma was raring to go around noon.  He wanted to go on a Jeep ride.  I decided a drive around the mountain would be fun.

We headed west on Salome highway for about 15 miles.  There were a number of small compounds along the highway and you could tell the people in this part of the Harquahala Valley are very poor.  Most homes were either vacant or dilapidated.

Old wooden house with plaster covering it.

Didn't step inside.  Very dangerous.

Good thing this driveway isn't in snow country.

Looking at Saddle Mountain from the southeast.
Old dilapated pool.  The house is long gone.  Saddle Mountain to the northeast.

Stopped here just before heading home.  Very small village.

We drove a total of fifty-two miles today, to circle the mountain.  About half was blacktop and the other half dirt.
Steve showing off his riding skills.

Steve and his buddies drove down to Nashville to run a half Marathon this past weekend.  Steve was first in the Grand Masters category.  Fancy name for those over fifty.  He went down with four of his running buddies.

Yuma and Princess Fergie💓
Dolly recently sent me this photo of our two dear babies.  We really miss our little Miss Princess Fergie, but we still have Yuma to fill part of the void.  Always sad when you lose a family member.

Another day, bites the dust.  It was a slow day, but enjoyable.  Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I had to laugh! Steve was first in the Grand Masters division, not the Grand Nationals. I think you need four wheels for that. Pretty rundown area you drove through today. That was a cool picture of the back side of Saddle Mountain. Glad you're having some good weather.

  3. Nice to see your out adventuring again. Does anybody live out in those parts? or maybe at one time in the past? Weird to see the old pool out there. Enjoy the nice weather Dad!

  4. How close are you to that monestery that is out there in the foothills? I wonder if they accept visitors? I think it has been there about 10 years. Phil, Phoenix

  5. I knew most of those views. Lots of old buildings out there. Wintersburg is a cute little wide spot. We got propane there on occasion.
Congrats to Steve and his buddies.
    Stay safe.
