Cargo Muchacho Mountains

I know it is getting monotonous,  but the morning was just beautiful again.  Woke up with the sun peeking over the Pilot Knob Mountain at 6:45.  Got up closer to 8 o'clock.   πŸ˜€

I had been texting Dolly and she still doesn't have power πŸ˜•.   She had two inches of snow and it did look pretty.

Later in the morning the next door neighbors texted Dolly to let her know their power had gone out.  Dolly is connected to their pool power and it did not go out.  So Dolly has power but they don't  πŸ˜€  I'm sure it will get straightened out!

As for me, I had a huge breakfast while sitting in the California sun in my lounge chair.  At around 12:30, Yuma and I decided to drive into the mountains to see what we could find.

The mountains are bare and remind me of a moonscape.  After wandering around a while looking for a road leading up to the mountains,

I ran into a group of people putting a dune buggy in a trailer.  Stopped to chat and the lady said her's broke and it needed a ride back to camp.  They had 5 dogs of different breeds and Yuma had a blast getting to know them.   They were familiar with the area and pointed out a way to get into the mountains.

Off we went in search of mines.

We see something!
Darn, it's all caged up!

Big enough for a truck to drive in there!

Before leaving the area I had to see what was over the ridge to the west.

Huge pit below.

Yuma is waiting at the top.
Sorry the pictures are out of order, but very hard to work with pictures on my phone 😞

The pit we looked down on is part of the old Tumco Gold Mine I went through last year but I came in from the other side  Heres a link to that post.Tumco Gold Mine

We came back to camp at 3 o'clock and my neighbors were already sitting and chatting, so Yuma and I joined in.

I looked down at my fitbit and noticed I had walked 10,900 steps today.   No wonder my feet hurt.  As the sun set we went home to start dinner.  Yuma and I had hamburgers tonight  and they were yummy.

NEWS FLASH!  Dolly just texted to say her power is on!  About time.  I thank those hardworking lines men and lines women.
Time to wrap this thing up and have dessert and hit the sack..See you later.

  1. Sorry, I have to correct Doug. When my neighbor's power went out, so did mine. I was hooked to their power source, so neither of us had power. In fact, our whole street was down.

Really beautiful pictures around the Cargo Muchacho Mountains area. I can see why you had so many steps today! Those mines looked in good shape. Glad you're enjoying the beautiful Arizona weather!

  2. First off! Yay to your update for Dolly! Her pictures of snow and ice were pretty but brrrr.
That mine did look cool but you wouldn't get me in one. Well, maybe for a certain amount of $$. Ha ha
Looks like a great day. Glad Yuma had fun with his new friends.

  3. Now that's my kind of adventure. The countryside looks kind of rough for hiking. No wonder your feet hurt!! Glad Dolly has electricity back. Snow sure is beautiful but destructive.

  4. Hooray for getting power!
Speaking of power, Doug, how are your new batteries holding up on these sunny but short days?

    1. Thanks Lee. I think I've come to a decent compromise. One I removed the handles on the fridge and that alleviates the problem with the narrow passage way and two, to prevent the batteries from going below 12.3 volts at night I run the generator for an hour from 8 to 9. I can live with that. Once I get home I'll buy two more batteries and see how it goes.

    1. Thanks Rick. Dolly is very happy the last week is over. Rough start to 2021 πŸ˜€ Too bad the mine was secured tightly. Would have liked to venture in for a look-see.
