Last night I started my evening on the south side of the Walmart parking lot, but then a small group of street people started collecting just off the pavement about 50 feet from my MH.
I wouldn't have cared, except they talked loud and had a dog or two making noises and this gave Yuma fits. He kept barking at the noise. I made a smart decision to move to the north side of the parking lot and had a nice quiet night.
This morning, I got up at 8 o'clock and headed into the store and bought the supplies I need to keep me afloat for a week or so. The day was sunny and warm already. ๐ At 9:30 we were heading out of Brawley and when we got to Westmoreland about 20 miles down the road, I pulled into a Love's and shut down to have breakfast and to give Yuma a chance to get out.
As I was reading the comments I saw one from my San Diego friend, Jeff Ruffin it with Rufus that caused me pause. Jeff is very familiar with the Borrego Springs area and he was telling me that the Anza Borrego State Park was unavailable for overnight camping until early in February. He was nice enough to provide alternatives and I thought about what to do next.
I really want to see Borrego Springs one more time so finally decided to head to a BLM near the Salton Sea. Deb and Riley had taken me to this place called Truckhaven Recreational Area just to the west of Salton City in the middle of nowhere. From here I can check out Borrego Springs about 20 miles west of here and also do my laundry.
If I find a place closer while running around in my Jeep, I can always move. Otherwise, this place is fine. There is not a soul out here, so I have the whole place to myself. Arrived here at 1:30 and both Yuma and I are tired, so not going anywhere today.
Calling for rain tomorrow, so at least I'm up high.Zoomed in on the Salton Sea east of me with the Chocolate Mountains over looking it..
Santa Rosa Mountains to the north.
Kind of barren looking but that's what deserts look like.
Although it is 64 out, there is a slight breeze that makes it feel cooler, so Yuma and I stayed inside most of the afternoon. Tomorrow, it is calling for rain, so may be a laundry day.
We have a full moon rising over the Chocolate Mountains tonight, but it is quite cloudy. I did manage to get a picture of it partially out of the clouds and making a moon glow on the Salton Sea below. ๐
Time for dinner, a little TV and bed. See you later.
I'm glad you boys were able to get a good night's sleep. The Salton Sea is a great place to camp. I can't believe they closed all of ABSP until next month. Wow. You got a beautiful picture of the moon reflecting in the water.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dolly. Nice and quiet last night. Too bad closing parks down for Cornavirus. The moon picture did turn out good. Sure didn't expect it.
DeleteWow! Awesome pic of the moon and reflection!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve.
DeleteI love camping near the Salton Sea. It's amazing that the sand is actually fish bones. It's a good place to hang out. Lots of interesting history there.
ReplyDeleteHave to check it out.
DeleteLove the moon picture! Looks like a really nice spot you and Yuma have there! We've never made it over there. I did see slowly campgrounds are reopening. Death Valley opens for camping today. It's time!
ReplyDeleteYou've settled in a nice spot for a few days. The website now says ABDSP is closed to overnight camping 'until further notice'. The county and BLM lands are open, so enjoy your spot!
ReplyDeleteThe moonrise turned out awesome!
Thanks Jeff. I finally went out to the parks website and see that everything is closed. I'll have to drive into BS and check it out.
DeleteLooks like you have a great place to stay. Amazing Moon Picture over the Salton Sea.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy Borrego Springs.
It's about time.
Thanks Rick. Hope to enjoy area for a week maybe.
DeleteI've always found the Salton Sea area fascinating. Love the moon picture. There's a Love's in Westmoreland??? I guess it's been awhile since we were in that area. Happy hunting!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elva. It keeps growing bigger out here. More people.
Delete"There is not a soul out here, so I have the whole place to myself." ...... Wow, how nice is that. As you know, that whole area you are in is usually humming this time of year with people, RV's, ATV's, dirt bikes, etc. With fewer people out there this year it would have been a perfect time for Kelly, Pheebs, and I to be out there.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you certainly found a quiet place to spend sometime. The picture of the moon rising is beautiful. You and Yuma enjoy your time there and stay safe.
