Started with partly cloudy skies this morning but very comfortable temperatures for 7:30. Had my breakfast and then put up my Dish and local antenna.
Turned on TV to ABC and I was shocked to see the events taking place in our capitol. I must say I'm saddened and embarrassed by today's events! I do know we will come out of this stronger and wiser.
I decided to get away from the events happening, so turned off the TV and Yuma and I headed for the sand dunes and Plank Road.
After crossing the Imperial Sand Dunes we found what was left of the original plank road that once carried travelers across these dunes.
How the road originally looked like. |
Yuma loves to run in the sand |
After dinner I walked over to Shane and Cathy's place where Tom and Deb were already there. We had lots of discussions. It was such a beautiful evening that we ended up having to use our flashlights to find our way home.
Another perfect day in the desert!
Plank Road is a pretty amazing place. It's hard to imagine people crossing the desert on it. Glad you had a relaxing day with nice clean tanks.😃
ReplyDeleteThank you Dolly. Amazing how far we have come in 100 years. As I stood looking at the remnants of this road I could see cars and trucks racing by on Interstate 8
DeleteWell, as I mentioned in another blog, you can't believe everything you see on the news any more. They show you what they WANT you to believe. Think ANTIFA. Anyway, the plank road is pretty cool. I think it would be amazing to ride on it in an old car. Imagine how rough THAT would be.
ReplyDeleteIt had to be much better than trying it in the sand. It wore me out to walk up that hill in the sand to take my pictures.
DeleteAgree with Nancy! Great pictures Doug! Looks beautiful down there!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shirley. The weather has been beautiful. Time to come on down 😀
DeleteNot much left of the original Plank Road!
ReplyDeletePretty much all gone. Tough environment for wood.
DeleteThat Plank Road is how my ancestors traveled. As a kid there was still a lot of it to see. This was way before the freeway....just the 2 lane Hwy. 80. We had hamburgers last night too!
ReplyDeleteLot of interesting history in that area I bet. I had forgotten how hard it is to walk in loose deep sand. 😕
DeleteSince we call the US our second home we were saddened to see the attack happening live.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Many are taken in by the Lies being said.
We'll keep America in our prayers.
Be Safe exploring and Enjoy your freedom.
It's about time.
Thank you Rick. Thank goodness this is now just a blip in our history.
DeletePlank Road is one of those things we never got around to seeing although we were only a few miles from it many times.
ReplyDeleteI've followed your blog for several years and always look forward to your photos and stories in the Southwest. This is the first time I've left a comment and wanted to let you know how meaningful this blog is to me. My grandfather worked at the mine in Ajo in the 1920s and he talked about driving the Plank Road and how hazardous it was. It was wonderful to hear your stories and see the photos of what remains of this most amazing road. Thank you.
