Trump Wall and the Wind

First off I quit!  I thought I could just play like I'm in Arizona time and it would just happen, but it didn't.  My body now thinks it's in California time so let's just give in and go with it.

This morning I woke up at 7:30 and just felt so comfortable I laid in bed for an hour and so did Yuma.  Read my comments and answered those and even sent comments to some friends.  I really do like these comfortable low temperatures in the Yuma area.  Don't need the heater to kill the chill.

I watched a few hours of TV last night just to test the batteries.  I even tried to get local channels but only got 7 channels, all Mexican.  I don't know how they do it, but the main channels can sure hide their signals.  I was using the wind-up antenna on the roof.  Tomorrow I'll put up the local booster antenna and try it.

I think the batteries did well.  Got down to 12.3 volts / 58 amps before the sun came up.

I was very slow with breakfast.  I laid out in the lounger until all of a sudden the wind came up out of the north.  It was also a little overcast but the sun still kept it warm.  Finally finished up at noon.

Finally, Yuma couldn't stand it anymore and wanted to go somewhere.  Had two choices for the day.  Drive over to the sand dunes or go down  and see how the wall is coming along.  Due to the windy conditions, I decided the wall was my choice.

Yuma gets excited when it's time to go.

The afternoon temps are expected to hit 66 which is fine even with the wind.  Plus, the wall and Mexico is only a few miles south as the crow flies.  I see lots of  lights in Mexico at night.  I can't fly so we took the road just along the west border of Pilot Knob Mountain and it made the trip about 4 miles.  Drove by the backside of Pilot Knob RV Park where I stayed earlier this year with my Canadian friends.  Looks empty this year.

Southwest side of Pilot Knob Mountain.

Driving south along the mountain, it wasn't long before we were at the canal with the wall on the other side.

Looks almost done along here.  One last section to go.

Yuma led the way as we went to higher ground to look around.  Looking back wondering why it takes me so long๐Ÿ‘€

You can see better from up here!

Yuma raced down the hill to the Jeep.

He's always waiting on me.

We turned left to the east at the canal and followed it.  The wall goes on forever.

Unfortunately the road ends here.

As the river started turning north, the beauty of the Colorado River came back to life.

One last look before we head back.

To our left we see the desolate east side of Pilot Knob Mountain.

Looking across the border to the town of Los Algodones.

We took the canal road to the west but soon came to a fence so that ended that ride.

All done in about two hours.  Heading back home through the tall power towers towards the dunes.

With the wind blowing, Yuma and I laid down on the bed to rest and before I knew it, it was going on 4 o'clock.

It's now dark and the wind is still blowing outside.  I started my blog early before dinner, so I'd better finish up and get dinner going.  It's already 6 o'clock.

See you later.

  2. Doug, enjoying your blog for several years but is my first time to respond to you. Enjoy all of your pictures & info. Wondering if you could answer a question for me. Are tourist able to cross border into Algadones to see eye doctors and dentists? Thank you for your help and keep up the good blog. Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

    1. Thank you for your kind comment, Rita. The border has been closed except for essential reasons until January 21st same as Canada. Other years many Americans do go there for doctor visits if they have a passport. Hope you continue your visits to my blog.

  4. The wall has come a long way in the past year. They've been hard at work. Don't think I'll ๐Ÿค” ever be any good with Spanish. Flunked it in high school. I think I like California time. More relaxing ๐Ÿ˜Œ

  5. I believe that WALL will be a deterrent, some will chance it, but a lot of people will not be able to over come it! Thanks for checking on that, take care, Rawn Stone

    1. Thanks Rawn. I'm afraid it will only stop the poor stragglers but not the professional drug runners ๐Ÿ˜• I worry about animal migration.

  6. I have never seen that rv park so empty. Very eerie. The wind is howling here today. I also can't get over how much of the Wall has been built. Wow. Wishing you and Yuma a very wonderful Christmas.

  7. I'm SO glad they are building the wall. Maybe it will slow down a few of those drug runners that are killing people here with their poison. Your wind just arrived in Tucson. It's been crazy all morning. I for one ... and probably the only one ... stay on Arizona time even when I'm in California. It makes it much easier to transition when I arrive! Merry Christmas Eve!!!!

    1. I doubt the wall will stop the professionals. I don't know how you can fool mother time and for so long. Maybe that's why you're so crazy ๐Ÿคช Merry Christmas Eve!

  8. Surprised to see that Pilot Knob RV Park so empty. Too bad Canadians can't get across the border to fill it up. Time zone changes are always confusing for a day or two.

    1. I gave up on trying to fool local time and I actually like California time. Hopefully, next month there will be more residents.

  10. I like your new header picture! the Colorado River is so pretty but then, so is my Saugeen. :) All rivers have that appeal.
That is a 'GREAT' wall! Thanks for the tour along the east side of the PK Mountain. Btw, we'd happily be in that park if we could!!
    Merry Christmas, Doug and Yuma!

  11. I love the drive around the All American Canal. There are some beautiful parts. It was also windy and a little cool in Wellton. As far as the Mexico border goes....we are checking on that. Jerry needs to see a dentist. He didn't like what the Yuma dentist told him. I understand you can cross for medical reasons but the border is closing very early....2pm. We were able to get the Yuma channels with the antenna when we stayed out there. We haven't had any luck in Wellton.

  12. Glad to know the name of the canal. I tried again today with roof antenna and no ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX. Will try my booster antenna later today. I hope Jerry can cross. Only a month to go. Have a Merry Christmas ๐Ÿคถ

  13. Did you notice where the All American Canal parallels the border, there is evidence of a former canal between the current one and the border? I've read that there was so much loss of water from the unlined canal through the sand dunes, they were forced to create a new concrete lined canal next to the open ditch for about 23 miles, ending just south of where the canal goes under I-8. I think maybe San Diego paid for the new canal so they could have the water that was saved. And reportedly over 500 lives have been lost in that area due to drowning of immigrants trying to enter the U.S. I can't believe some of the statistics: the canal is 50 ft deep in some places, and 700 ft. wide in other places, with a fairly swift flow in the narrow sections. Per Wikipedia.

    1. Very interesting. I did notice the water was moving quickly through the narrow area with the palm trees. I will be traveling along the canal westward into the dunes in the next several days. I will look for the old canal.
