Visit to Ajo, Arizona–Part two

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

Ajo, is a pretty little town about 110 miles west of Tucson, 110 miles south of Phoenix, 160 miles east of Yuma and 38 miles north of Mexico.  There is a lot of history in this small town.

The New Cornelia Open Pit Mine is located right at the outskirts.  That is Black Mountain in the background.  We are staying just on the other side of this pit. Ajo Open Pit Mine

John Greenway, owner of the mine built this mansion for his wife.  It sits high above Ajo and overlooks the mine.

The Ajo Copper News building has a unique mural.  Whe you look at it from a certain spot across the street, it looks to be a part of the building.

If you click on the image to enlarge, You can see animals in the clouds and music and mountains.  Very intricate full wall mural.

There is a beautiful park surrounded by the Ajo Mall.  Green grass, Palm trees and several churchs.

Today, we drove down to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument for a visit.  Lots of photos.  I will go through those and post them tomorrow.

See you later.
